If there is one type of food I obsessed with… it’s donuts.  Ever since moving to DC, it’s always been a challenge to find good donuts.  Especially when all that really is available is krispy kreme or dunkin donuts.  However, for these past National Donut Day, I found myself in Chicago where I had the chance to try some of the most delicious donuts I’ve ever eaten.  After considerable research, it seems that there are two institutions that are decisively the best in the city: Do-Rite Donuts and Doughnut Vault.

Maui Eats: Mama’s Fish House

Mama’s Fish
799 Poho Place
Paia, HI 96779

Aloha everyone!  Sorry for the absence, but I just returned from beautiful and sunny Hawaii for one of my good friend’s wedding.  Although she got married in Oahu, we had to stop over in one of the neighboring islands.  After having such a great experience last year, we decided to go back to Maui and discover other parts of the island that we didn’t have the time to see last time we were in town.  However, there were some favorite spots that we had to revisit.  One of which was Mama’s Fish House.

DC Eats: Rose’s Luxury

Rose's Luxury

Rose’s Luxury
717 8th Street SE
Washington, DC 20003

Voted best New Restaurant by both Bon Appetit Magazine and GQ, Rose’s Luxury is located in DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood  and has captured the attention of foodies and curious diners alike.  Even before all the media attention, people have been buzzing about this place with lines out the door before the restaurant even opened.  Since the restaurant doesn’t take reservations, patrons are lining out the door often 1 hour plus before the restaurant even opens.  Since, I knew the hype wasn’t going to die down anytime soon, the hubs and I finally decided to bite the bullet  and wait it out.  We should have planned it better, as fellow yelpers noted to come by 4 -4:30 PM, but we thought the cold day would deter diners from coming out.  Boy…were we wrong.  We arrived at 4:45 pm and the line was at least 100 people deep.  No lie.

A Perfect Roman Afternoon

Tazza D'Oro3When I’m planning a trip, nothing excites me more than when a great eating spot is located near a main attraction. Often, it’s hard to find a great eatery next to a tourist attraction and all you are left with  are “tourist traps”. BUT – sometimes you luck out and find what I like to call “the ideal itinerary.”  And that’s exactly what I found in Rome.

Italy Eats: Gelato!

Bongiorno! I just returned from an amazing trip to Italy. For the past week or so, my days were filled with historic sights, tired legs, and of course great food. One item that I had daily..ok sometimes twice a day..shhh 😉 ….was gelato. So I thought I would rank some of my favorite gelato places and inspire those who are looking to travel to Italy soon

  1. Gelateria Dondoli @ ‪Piazza della Cisterna, 4, 53037 San Gimignano, Italy

Gelateria Dondoli

Hands down. Without a doubt. My favorite gelato. Now THIS is what gelato is about. The gelato was so nice, smooth, and creamy. My favorite flavor? PIstacchio. It was so addicting, we had to go back immediately for seconds. Now, this was a point of contention between the hubs and I. Did Gelateria Dondoli or Giolitti serve the better Pistacchio gelato. My opinion? Gelateria Dondoli. For myself, Gelateria Dondoli’s texture was better as it was creamier and smoothier by far compared to any gelato we had in Italy. Also – I loved the Pistacchio flavor as it was subtle and wasn’t as in your face with the pistachio flavor. I also love that it wasn’t overly sweet and was just right. Sigh* I dream of this gelato now. Continue reading
